My path to success - experiences and challenges

My journey with sport didn't end when I stopped playing. It changed direction.

I played rugby for 17 years before injury brought my playing career to an end. Like many athletes, sport had become a significant part of who I was. It gave me structure, purpose, friendships, belonging and a sense of identity.

When I could no longer play, I had to find a different way to channel the energy, passion and commitment that sport had given me.

I found it through coaching.

For the past 17 years, I have dedicated my time and energy to helping others in sport, from grassroots through to elite pathways, working across men's and women's sport. I've coached athletes through development, challenge, change and the pursuit of performance, and along the way I've seen something that goes far beyond what happens on the pitch.

I've seen athletes who are incredibly capable lose confidence when their sporting career changes.

I've seen people who once had a clear sense of purpose suddenly question what comes next.

I've seen athletes struggle with the loss of their team, their routine, their status and, ultimately, the identity they had built around sport.

And I've seen how difficult it can be to move forward when you don't know who you are without the thing that has always defined you.

I've also had the privilege of experiencing athlete identity beyond my own sporting environment. I've supported players in Fiji, travelled across Europe and experienced different sporting environments, communities and cultures.

The surroundings may change. The sport may change. The culture may change. But one thing has remained remarkably consistent:

When sport becomes a major part of who you are, finding out who you are beyond it can be one of the biggest challenges when that chapter changes or ends.

That's where I belong.

I don't claim to have played professional sport. Instead, I have 17 years playing rugby. 17 years coaching athletes. I've lived the sporting identity and spent my career helping others understand theirs.

My role isn't to tell you that I know exactly what your professional career was like. It's to help you understand what your sporting identity has meant to you, recognise what remains when that identity changes, reconnect with the person beyond the athlete and discover what you want your next chapter to look like.

Because your sporting career may end.

But everything it helped you become doesn't have to.

Empathic

I know what it feels like to face uncertainty, question your direction and wonder what comes next.

I've also seen how difficult that uncertainty can be for athletes when the structure, identity, relationships and purpose that sport provided suddenly change.

I create a space where people feel heard, understood and supported without judgement, while still being challenged to move forward.

My role isn't to tell you who you should become. It's to help you understand where you are, reconnect with what matters to you and discover what comes next.

Learn

I’m naturally curious and believe there is always more to learn, improve and explore.

Seventeen years of coaching has taught me that every athlete is different. I've worked across different levels, environments, cultures and sporting pathways, and each experience has reinforced the same lesson: there is no single blueprint for navigating change.

I continually invest in my own development so I can bring fresh thinking, practical tools and new perspectives to the people I work with.

I believe the best coaching isn't about having all the answers.

It's about creating the space, asking the right questions and providing the tools that help people understand themselves, learn from their experiences and move forward.

Results-oriented

I believe coaching should create real change, not just good conversations.

For athletes transitioning away from sport, real change can mean understanding who they are beyond their sporting identity, rebuilding confidence, rediscovering purpose and creating a clear direction for what comes next.

I work with people to turn insight into action, build momentum and create meaningful results that make a lasting difference.

The goal isn't simply to help you get through the end of your sporting career.

It's to help you build what comes after it.

My profile, my passion and my mission

I’m an athlete identity and transformation coach, passionate about helping professional athletes navigate identity shifts, on and off the pitch.

My journey began as an athlete. It evolved through 17 years of coaching and it has been shaped by seeing first-hand how deeply sport can influence a person's identity, confidence, relationships and sense of purpose.

I've supported athletes across different levels, genders, environments and cultures, from grassroots sport to elite pathways, and from the UK to experiences across Europe and Fiji.

Those experiences have shown me that while every athlete's story is different, the question underneath transition is often the same:

“Who am I now?”

My work is about helping athletes explore that question.

To understand what sport has given you.

To recognise the strengths and values you carry beyond it.

To reconnect with the parts of yourselves that may have been overshadowed by your sporting identity.

And to create a future that feels meaningful, purposeful and genuinely yours.

I don't believe as an athlete you have to leave your sporting identity behind.

I believe you can build on it.

That is the purpose of Coaching Growth.

Helping athletes reconnect with who you are beyond sport and discover what's next.

Life Beyond Sport. Driven By You.

Let's work together on your goals
